STUDY: Ideation of technology to assist users who are blind in a kitchen environment

ABSTRACT

This paper focuses on the outcome of a study we conducted to ideate assistive technology devices that would improve the kitchen environment for blind individuals. We conducted in-home observations and interviews with two blind participants. We discovered their reliance on assistive technology in the kitchen is minimal. Instead, they rely on placement tactics, memory, and spousal interaction when preparing food. We discussed specific solutions that could ease reliance on recall and caretakers.
